I hope the school year has been off to a good start. There are so many exciting events happening in the Music Department with the start of the football season and preparations for the vocal ensemble Kiwanis performance and marching band performance on FOX8 News in the Morning. The Music Booster group has been busy with photo buttons, vocal uniform fittings, halftime refreshments and preparations for our Fall Basketball Concession Stand fundraiser. This fundraiser is held on six consecutive Sundays beginning October 13, 2013. Music Boosters will split the proceeds 50/50 and funds for hours worked can be earned toward the 2015 Florida Trip. This year we will be using a website for volunteer signups. www.signupgenius.com We will post information on the Booster website on how to access the website to sign up after our September 11 meeting that will be held at 6:30 pm in the IHS Library. In addition, the Independence Kiwanis Club is looking for students to volunteer at their Chicken BBQ. Students are needed on Saturday, September 14 from 8:00 am to Noon for set up and prep work at the Kiwanis Pavilion. Student help is also needed on Sunday, September 15 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Students bring your Service Hour forms for credit! The Independence Kiwanis Club has been a huge supporter of the Independence High School Music Department throughout the years. Your support of their chicken BBQ fundraiser and volunteerism not only helps the Kiwanis Club but the Music Department as well. I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events! Marcia Abbadini, President Enrichment Grant is Part of Our MissionThe ongoing mission of the music boosters is to foster and encourage student development in the musical arts. Throughout the year the music boosters raise money to provide funds used to purchase instruments, equipment and uniforms. Booster volunteers provide hospitality for both the IHS and visiting bands at football halftime, and also assist with set design/construction and costume design/creation for the madrigal and drama productions. The Music Boosters also offer a musical enrichment grant for eligible students.
